Strengthening Health Systems in the Eastern Mediterranean Region: Key Insights from the Health System Resilience Workshop

A recent series of online workshops focused on health system resilience brought together key stakeholders from Libya, Iraq, Tunisia, Jordan, and Iran to explore and enhance the ability of healthcare systems within the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) to withstand and recover from shocks and stresses.

The workshops, led by esteemed experts including Dr. Amirhossein Takian, provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the multifaceted nature of health system resilience. Participants addressed the unique challenges confronting their respective countries, emphasizing the critical need for tailored strategies to fortify their health infrastructure and ensure preparedness for future crises. The importance of adaptability and preparedness emerged as central themes throughout the sessions.

Furthermore, dedicated sessions facilitated by Rayan Elghazal (Libya), Abdallah Shawwa (Jordan), Sedki Bradai (Tunisia), Sanaz Bordbar (Iran), and Ban SaibYaqeen Nather (Iraq) specifically addressed the roles and contributions of National Member Organizations (NMOs) in building resilient health systems within their national contexts.

These webinars fostered a fruitful dialogue centered on existing frameworks and best practices aimed at enhancing resilience within the healthcare sector. The exchange of knowledge and experiences is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening health systems across the EMR.
